Setback for Nancy Van Der Ven At Italian Championship Event in Gazzane

Nancy van de Ven of the Ceres71 Yamaha team suffered some setbacks during the Italian Womens championship motocross event at Gazzane. After finishing second in the opening heat, she crashed heavily in the second race, and had to retire with a badly damaged bike.

Nancy qualified second on Saturday. She converted her favorable gate into a holeshot in Sunday’s opening race. The track is a technical, hard-pack affair, exactly the kind that she wishes to gain more experience on. She lost the lead, but kept her cool in the unfamiliar conditions, finishing second, just seven seconds adrift.

Unfortunately, the second race yielded its trouble almost immediately. Nancy found herself outside track limits, and crashed heavily. The bike was too damaged to continue, and she had to retire, which kept her to sixth overall for the day. She is second in the championship standings. Her next outing is the WMX Womens world championship event in Turkey next weekend.
