Nancy Van De Ven Scores Gritty Podium AT WMX GP In Loket

Nancy van de Ven of the No Fear Yamaha team had to dig every bit of grit she has to score a podium finish at the Czech round of the WMX world championship series in Loket. Van de Ven sustained a knee injury in the first heat, but bit through the pain in the second race to finish fourth, which gave her third overall.

Van de Ven’s weekend started off in a troubled state already, because some mechanical woes and a heavy crash put a damper on the high spirits early on. She still managed to qualify fourth, putting all of that behind her, and launched off the gate with the leading group in race one. She quickly advanced from fourth to second, but could not catch Courtney Duncan and came home in second.

Van de Ven had trouble even walking as the lined up for the second race. She limited her warm-up time to one lap only, saving her energies for the race. She held second for a while, but later dropped back as a malfunctioning rear brake compounded her woes.

Van de Ven was third overall for the day and remains in second spot in the world championship standings.  She will in all probability undergo an operation this week to resolve the problem with her knee, and so that she may line up for the GP at Imola  without any discomfort. The race will take place on 17 and 18 August.
